Tasmania-Part 1

We spent almost a full two weeks in Tasmania & I loved it there. The weather was perfect – it only rained after we left or before we got to each place. We drove down to Victoria, stopping on the way to stay with one of Andrew’s friends, Petra. Beautiful house and lovely garden ( sorry no pictures, camera was charging).

We took the Spirit of Tasmania, a car ferry,  over to the island- which took all day. It was a pretty easy crossing, especially as Andrew had booked recliner seats with power and wi-fi. Stayed the first night at a place close-by the Ferry. It was camping but with a toilet and shower on each camping site (Posh living).  Showered in the morning, had breakfast  and drove through some touristy places. One was a massive lavender farm. The image is just one field.

The next campsite was in a beautiful park the upper right corner of Tasmania Island. This is a view from the campsite- very basic. Just a place for the tent. Toilets were down the road a fair ways.  IMG_1455After that we headed down along the coast – to Oyster Bay. As we were passing through a wilderness area, I spotted something bright on the roadside, which turned out to be terrestrial orchids.

After Oyster Bay we headed inland and stayed in a town called Oatlands. The place was like a studio apartment and the yard and parking areas were completely surrounded by lavender in full bloom. No pictures, but I did pick a little and make some lavender wands.  The whole town was quite lovely!

The next day we were up and on the road to visit Andrew”s friend and former student. They had a great place that they were busy restoring.  We all went to the market in Hobart ( this was huge!) kind of like a Pennsylvania farmer’s market and craft festival all in one. After that it was on to the Botanical gardens.  Only one picture- and it’s an artichoke!IMG_1463
